During my scheduled creative time last Thursday, I decided to loosen up a bit by playing around with watercolors. Although watercolor isn't my #1 medium (I heart oil paints!), I've had a lot of fun working with it lately simply because it is SO DIFFERENT from oil paint. Watercolor allows me to be carefree and loose with my brushstrokes, and for some reason, it forces me to just have fun. Maybe it's because it isn't my medium, and I haven't been trained and critiqued in this medium, so I am able to just let go when working with them. No matter what the reason, I've had fun with them and enjoy exploring such a fluid type of paint! Last week, I decided to continue my artistic obsession with yoga poses, only this time in a very whimsical and simplified way that I can only seem to achieve with watercolor...you can view a few of my simple, playful sketches below: Never played with watercolors? They're so fun--you must! Just pick up a kit, even something as simple as a Crayola set from your local CVS (will have to buy a better brush, though...) and play around! Treat yourself by carving out some time for creativity this week :) I'm now off to a day of MBO training in NYC (and for those of you read last night's post and are wondering, yes, I did tear up multiple times when driving into the city last night. Then, once I'd settled into the hotel, I went out for a walk to breathe in some "fresh" Manhattan air, soak in the familiar sights and sounds, and feel sorry for myself because I don't live here anymore. It was really sad and sounds pathetic, but it was actually very therapeutic and happy at the same time)! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
