Two weeks ago, at the end of a luscious morning yoga class, the teacher shared this quote:
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.” -Goethe I think we should all start every day with a reading of this passage. Is there anything more true, more relevant, more important than remembering that we "possess the power to make life miserable or joyous"? I am a big believer in the idea that everything happens for a reason, and feel that if we can find inspiration and opportunity in even the most negative of circumstances, our journey will change drastically. So take a moment to reflect on this idea today, and allow your personal approach to create a sunny day--no matter what the weather, the climate, or the mood. Namaste!
