Starr Struck Radio is back! Did you miss our weekly podcast as much as we did over the summer? I hope so ;) As we discuss in the episode, our summer was INSANE so taking a break was the right thing to do, but it's great to be kicking things back into gear now that September has arrived. Here's this week's episode description (short + sweet): In our Season #2 premiere we discuss the summer, share a special #firstworldproblems segment (inspired by my trip to Peru), chat about the show's format, and discuss a topic that Ben has been obsessed with over the past few months: sun exposure. You can listen to the episode below OR by downloading and/or subscribing in iTunes or Stitcher (be sure you search "Starr Struck Radio").
As promised, here are some of the links we mentioned during the show...

I think that's it for this week! For those who enjoy the show and haven't yet done so, would you *pretty please* do us a favor and write a review in iTunes? It only takes about 2 minutes and is a BIG help! Directions on how to rate + review are here. You can peruse all of the past Starr Struck Radio episodes on my new podcast page. Happy listening!
Yay welcome back! Loved your first episode back. I definitely saw where you were both coming from in this episode -- as a redhead I do NEED to wear sunscreen or I'll burn, however as the summer goes along I wear it less and less as I start to gain a base. I can totally see how people are a bit too obsessed with sunscreen these days and agree with Ben that a little sun exposure without sunblock on is probably good for us!

Well-said, Amber!!!! ;) And thanks SO much for listening + sharing your thoughts...a little healthy back-and-forth is always good, I think! xoxo There ARE dangerous chemicals in many sunscreens, but you should definitely ALWAYS use sunscreen, Ben!!! I work for a non-toxic personal care company and we make one of the highest rated non-toxic sunscreens on the market! There are safe options that don't harm your health AND protect you from the sun! :) Check safety ratings on the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database -- for all your personal products :) You'd be surprised that even your hand soap in the bathroom can be filled with things that accumulate in your body when they absorb into your skin and cause problems for your health.

Thanks, Dawn! I've heard such good things about BeautyCounter...must give their sunscreens a try next summer! Thanks for sharing.

I too can see both sides, sort of! I think a good compromise is to have an annual skin exam by a dermatologist, for both of you. I go every year, so important! I use sunscreen lightly, in the summer months only. The rest of the year I believe it is important to get some sunshine daily. A Vitamin D supplement is not a bad idea if you wear sunscreen all the time.

Thanks for sharing, Maureen! Great advice...and YES, Ben needs to go the the derm once per year for sure! I obviously already do ;) xoxo! You're back! As someone who is in the sun a lot surfing and kiteboarding, I really enjoyed the points made in this podcast. I have skin that tans easily; however, I opt to cover up versus apply sunscreen. The skin is the largest organ and I worry about absorption of the many toxins in most sunscreens through the skin. This said, I do spend time in the sun without much cover for the health benefits (vitamin D) and I do think it is important to build up a gradual tan (if possible) to prevent burns. If someone cannot tolerate much sun without burning, covering up is the safest option. Seems sunscreen can be as toxic as a burn. Comments are closed.
