Well that was a fast week, wasn't it? I hope you had a good one. I definitely did, but man, these crazy storms that are happening all over the place sure are scary and devastating. I'm thinking of all of you in the Southeast today and hoping that everyone stays safe as Irma heads to the US this weekend...
But lets focus on all of the good in this past week and chat about our favorite simple, sensory joys, shall we? What brought you happiness over the past 7 days? My SJOTW are below... HEAR: "Station" by Lapsley New month = new yoga class playlist and I'm really enjoying this one--especially the song listed above, which I found on Spotify (of course). I'm so thankful for Spotify you guys, I can't even handle it, and I know I keep saying this but really, why did it take me SO long to start using it for my class playlists? Listen to "Station" here. SEE: My dad + Charlie Mae interacting My dad was in town to see his granddaughter Friday-Monday and although it was a short visit, it was a really special one because of how much he and Charlie Mae bonded. I loved watching them create little games together, hearing her say "Baba" (what we're calling him), and watching him watch her in amazement. I really wish my family lived closer but learning to accept it and appreciate the visits that we do have... TASTE: Jumbo chocolate chip cookie + milk Ben brought home a random treat of jumbo cookies last night--one for each of us! Thursdays are my late night of teaching and I'm always super exhausted by the time I finish getting Charlie Mae down and eating dinner, so when I spotted the giant cookie he bought me sitting on the counter I was *pretty* excited. I enjoyed it on the couch with a glass of milk and it really hit the spot. {And yes, I ate the whole thing. Obvs.} SMELL: Fresh air coming in through our new screen door/front door We got a new door installed in our main entryway last weekend and it has been a game-changer! The way our house plan works we have an "official" front door that we never use and the main door that we actually use enters into our kitchen. Until last week, it was a crappy old door with no storm door, but now that we've upgraded we have a storm door that converts into a screen door, so we've been able to keep the door open and allow the breeze to come in. Our once hot, stuffy, small kitchen now feels WAY bigger and has become one of the coolest rooms in the house. So worth the cost of the door + installation!!!! TOUCH: Scrolling through our 1-year family photoshoot pics (I know it's a stretch putting this under 'touch' but I'm going for it) We did a photoshoot on the beach right around Charlie Mae's 1st birthday and our amazing photographer (shout-out Olivia Beaton Photography!) sent us the pics last night. To say we're obsessed with them is an understatement...she did an incredible job capturing the essence of our little girl at this stage in her life and we are so grateful! We just keep looking at them and talking about all of the funny little faces Charlie Mae is making and how much we adore her. I hope I don't sound like a narcissist, we just think she's such a sweetie and love having it captured on film ;) I shared some of the pics on Instagram and Facebook last night, but will be sure to share a selection on the blog next week, too... And that's it for this week! I hope your week was full of simple, sensory joys, too. Take some time to reflect on them today if you can, okay? Stay safe + dry out there this weekend, everyone! The 1 year pictures came out adorable! Also, I've been meaning to say that I loved the Star Struck episode this week. I thought both you and Ben captured the first year of parenthood so well. I think anyone who has been a parent can relate to loving your child more than you ever thought possible but also being like WHY IS THIS SO HARD. Our experience has been very similar to yours (x2) as far as dad involvement/level of comfort. My boys both took a bottle but neither were comforted by it (if that makes sense). I was also more comfortable like you said, plopping the baby in the carrier and going out or getting things done (maybe because I had the boob to fall back on if things got crazy?). The only thing that is different is that my husband is WAY better than me at "playing"- but we may have discovered that talent more as Max got older. How in the world he can just sit there and play the same ridiculous game for 20 minutes is beyond me ha ha. But, as far as leaving the baby alone with Dad, that just gets easier and easier the older they get. Anyway, I loved the episode and I'm excited for the next season- though I will miss Ben. I almost cheered in my car when he was talking about his hatred of door to door salesman. The worst. ESPECIALLY when you have a baby.

Thank you for this, Kelly! So helpful to hear that other people had similar experiences (on both fronts). Phew. This stuff is H.A.R.D. I so appreciate you sharing and listening/reading! Lots of love to you + your fam! xoxo Comments are closed.
