My week was a rushed one. You know how holiday weekends are amazing, but then you're trying to cram 5+ days of work into 4 workdays? Yeah, I think that's what made it a little hectic and I bet you understand (but I hope your week wasn't *too* jam-packed!). But, even if your week was totally crazy, I urge you to take a little time to reflect on the simple things that brought you joy today. It's even more important to do this when things have been rushed--if you don't, the special moments that happened only a few days ago are completely forgotten. My fave sensory pleasures + experiences of the past week are below... HEAR: "Returning" by Jennifer Berezan This month's savasana song...and oh my, it's a good one. One of my fabulous readers shared it with me in a blog comment (thanks!) and every time that it comes on when I'm teaching, it makes me want to settle down and join everyone on their backs for a quick break ;) You can listen below (and be prepared to want to rest!): SEE: Less traffic... Re: traffic, summer on the Cape is kind of a nightmare. When the population of your small town triples for a couple of months, you feel it--especially on roads that weren't built for that many people all going in the same direction at once. But this week, it's been lovely to experience the traffic slowly decrease, more space on the roads, and a bit more breathing room. Ahhhhh. It really is the simple things in life. TASTE: A delicious Margarita {from Beachtree Cantina in Hyannis} I hadn't had a margarita in a looonnnngggg time, and then last weekend, I had the chance to enjoy one outside, with my honey, while eating chips, salsa, and the best guac around. Does it sound enjoyable? Oh, it was. In fact, I had the chance to enjoy a few different adult beverages over the course of the holiday weekend, which made me feel like I was on a little mini-staycation. It was splendid! SMELL: Lake water/fresh water For most of this summer, if we were swimming, we were at the beach. But on Labor Day, we went to a local lake with some family and kayaked, paddle-boarded, and swam. I know it's subtle, but the lake felt different and smelled different and it was great fun to experience a different body of water this summer. TOUCH: Miniature Golf Ben and I played mini golf together last weekend! I know! I was like, "Are we on our first date?" But he really wanted to and I have to say, it was really, really fun. I was pretty bad (obvs), but I got the only hole-in-one of the night, so that has to count for something ;) ...And there you have it! I hope your weekend is full of simple, sensory pleasures--and that you find the time and space to really soak them up. Oh, and if you're looking for a little weekend entertainment, check out our latest Starr Struck Radio episode, in which we interview a friend (and guy) about his first yoga experience. It's a good one (if I do say so myself). Lastly: I just want to say that I'm thinking about the victims of 9/11 and their families + friends today. The first plane hit at 8:46 a.m, so I plan on pausing at that time to send a little loving, healing energy + good thoughts out into the world. I hope you'll join me. Comments are closed.
