Simple Joys of the Week, March 3rd Edition

3/3/2017

Picture
Oh wow, another Friday and another new month (already!?). Did you feel totally caught off guard by March 1st this week? I know I did!

Despite flying by (as per ushe), the past 7 days were still quite full of simple, sensory joys for me. I should also mention there were some low lows, as well (the two nights that I ended up sleeping on the floor in Charlie Mae's nursery because of her tummy issues + subsequent need to be with me every second, my lack of productivity when it comes to work, etc.), but here we are--we made it!

A few of my favorite simple pleasures are below. What brought you happiness over the past week?

HEAR: Birds Chirping
I know it's not really spring yet, but it sure has felt like it lately--especially last weekend. Some flowers are starting to come up in our yard (I know!), the sun has been out, the weather has been pretty mild, and the birds have been chirping; it's been incredible! We've taken a bunch of walks in this warm weather over the past week and I've loved hearing the sounds of "spring." [Who knows, maybe  those birds chirp all winter and I don't notice, but when it's warm and sunny out, I hear them loud + clear. It's like a Disney movie!]

SEE: Charlie Mae eating solids
We've got a solids-eater, everyone! So far she's enjoyed avocado (her first food) and sweet potatoes, but she seems to slightly prefer the sweet potatoes ;) While she still hasn't totally mastered the art of swallowing each bite, she's having a blast eating and so are we. We haven't loved the digestion issues that have come along with introducing food, but hey, you win some you lose some, right?

TASTE: Dark Chocolate
Remember how I mentioned that Ben bought 10 Dark Chocolate bars on his trip to the grocery story on Tuesday? Thus, this SJOTW. I've enjoyed a little piece after dinner each evening since he brought them home and it's been a lovely treat (I've been trying my best to savor the taste with each bite...).

SMELL: Toasted Whole Wheat Bagel + Cream Cheese + Jelly
We're in a bagel phase. I've definitely mentioned our local "New York Bagel" place here before (JoMama's), and we recently picked some up after a long bagel hiatus. We like to have eggs, a bagel, and fruit as a late brunch on the weekends when I get back from teaching, and there's nothing like walking in to the scent of a fresh bagel being toasted in the oven. Oh, and my new favorite way to eat a bagel is with cream cheese AND jelly. So wild, I know!

TOUCH: The heated pool at our local YMCA
Charlie Mae and I went to her first "swim class" on Wednesday morning! It's called "Water Discovery" and it's adorable. It was *so* fun seeing her in the pool, the class was great, we both loved being around other moms + babies, and the water felt wonderful on my tired, sore body. So glad we're in for another 11 weeks of class! Now I just need to figure out how to get Charlie Mae + myself dried off, changed, and home in time for her morning nap without a total meltdown ;)

That's it for this week! See you back here on Monday to celebrate 6 years of blogging! I've got a fun gift for all of you and can't wait to share it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Charlie Mae looks so grown up sitting in the highchair and so adorable. Sweet potatoes were my grandson, Benjamin's favorite food as a baby. He got the orange glow on his face because it was all he would eat for a long time! He is still a picky eater at 3 yrs. of age. I hope Charlie Mae will be a less finicky eater for you. Dark chocolate is my passion. Bagels with cream cheese is another favorite (Panera's are delicious). Have a great weekend and get plenty of sleep! Thank-you for another lovely SJOTW.
