Happy March, everyone! February was an almost awkwardly short month, wasn't it? It was so quick that I'm not sure I even remember it, but no matter what just happened, I can't believe we've made it to March. I'm even more amazed that the advent of this month means that I have now been blogging for almost 1 year. Last year on this day I was on an "unplugged" trip to the mountains with my Stepmom--relaxing, sleeping, eating, and plotting the "new blog" I was going to start when I returned to reality...my, how time flies, huh? Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself--more about that on Monday, the "official 1 year anniversary" of Starr Struck. Until then, lets take a look at some Simple Joys of the Week, shall we? What brought you happiness this week? My simple pleasures are below: ![]() Hear: "These Are the Days" by Jason Collett Heard on (you guessed it!), Pandora, this song by Jason Collett makes me really happy. I've added it to my new March playlist (playlists coming next week, I promise!), and find it to be really fun--I hope it will be fun to practice to, as well! Listen to the song below: ![]() So many pic of hats on the blog today!? See: Casablanca Embarrassingly enough, I had never seen this movie until last weekend. Crazy, right? And neither had Ben, so obviously, we decided it was time to take a look. It was great, of course, and I'm amazed that it was made in 1942 and still remains so poignant. It was also really funny to watch an old movie after not having seen one in a long time. I loved the car scenes--you know the ones, where they're "driving" in the car and there's a screen behind them showing the landscape moving (haha!); I also loved the overly-wrought lovers, the dramatics, and the crazy-intense kisses. It was a lot of fun to watch and I'm glad I now understand like 100 Casablanca references that I never understood before ;) ![]() Taste: Orange Honey Almonds In the same care package from CA that I mentioned here last week, my friend included a package of "Orange Honey Almonds." In her card she wrote, "you seriously won't be able to put down these almonds." Um, yeah...she was right. They are SO delicious and I've never had anything like them!? I'm a total-almond girl (+ my favorite candy in the world = Jordan Almonds), so they were perfect. If you ever get the chance, try them! ![]() Imagie via topit.me Smell: Spring (it's in the air!!!) Can you feel it? Can you smell it, too? I can and it's made me SO happy this week. Yesterday I kept the door to the balcony open all day as I worked and painted, and even snuck out for a quick walk/errand run to soak up a bit of Vitamin D. Amazing! Even thought it's been a wonderfully mild winter, the spring still feels as exciting as ever to me. Plus, look at this GORGEOUS picture (to the right)--we get to enjoy all the spring flowers soon, too! Yay! ![]() Image via thechangeordie.org Touch: MoMA Sky Umbrella :) One of my students gave me this umbrella for Christmas, and when I used it on Wednesday (the day of the torrential downpour in DC), it made me really happy. There's not a more optimistic umbrella out there, is there? I feel like it's perfect for me and it's a great reminder that even though it's raining, the sun will come out again soon :) See? Isn't it nice to reflect on the little things that brought you happiness over the past 7 days? I'm hoping for a weekend full of Simple Joys, as well :) On the docket for this girl? Vegucated (documentary) screening tonight, CrossFit Open workout (10 mins of snatches...yikes!), Yoga & Cross Training workshop at TSA, and hopefully, some much-needed relaxation time. Should be a fun one! I hope your weekend is FULL of *simple pleasures* and lots of sleep... Namaste! Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
