March is almost over. As crazy as this is, it also means that in 9 days, Ben and I will be in in sunny San Diego, CA, where we'll be spending a relaxing week in a little beach cabin. Ahhhhhhh. Part belated-honeymoon, part we-never-take-trips-together-so-we're-taking-one, part we've-never-been-to-CA-and-that's-crazy, we cannot wait for this trip. But, I'm getting ahead of myself, because this post is meant to do exactly the opposite of what I'm doing here--live in the present moment and savor the special experiences of the past week ;) So, how about we talk about simple, sensory pleasures? What brought you happiness over the past week? My SJOTW are below... HEAR: "Take Care" by Beach House A couple of months ago, I taught a birthday party yoga class (so much fun) for one of my students. As a part of this class, she requested that I include this song, which I'd never heard of at the time, on the class playlist. Needless to say, I loved it, and was so happy that she introduced me to this group--I'm now a total fan of Beach House and have included this song on my March playlist. You can listen below! SEE: Argo
I finally saw it! And it was SO good! I'm one of those people who hates not being in the know when it comes to good films, music, or art, so it was wonderful to finally see this movie that everyone has been raving about for so long. They were right, though, and if you haven't seen this film, you should. It's really well done and I am simply in awe of Ben Affleck's talent (yet again). TASTE: Delicious sweet treats (Gluten-free cupcake, Reeces Eggs, and homemade cookies) Okay, enough is enough. After looking back on my past few weeks of SJOTW, I've noticed a trend: sweets. Remember back in January when I gave up dessert for a month, just to remind my body (and mind) that you don't need something sweet after every meal? I think I need to do that again soon. I've been totally enjoying all of these amazing sweets lately, but I think I've built up a habit again and it makes me feel kind of yucky. Maybe after I get back from CA...? ;) SMELL: Spring! It's coming, I know it is! Although we had snow on Monday (!?!?) and it's been really chilly this week, the sunshine, blooming flowers, and chilly breeze keep reminding me that spring it on it's way. I've been finding joy in the little flowers that I come across when walking, the refreshing sunshine, and the breeze, and I'm enjoying every minute of it, even if it is a *bit* chillier than we'd hoped it would be by now... TOUCH: Balloons and streamers I'm a sucker for decorations. So, as weird as it may sound, I totally enjoyed decorating the studio for our Spring Open House this week. I loved hanging streamers (so pretty!), blowing up and putting out balloons (why do balloons immediately = excitement?), and putting up little informational signs. It felt so festive and celebratory, and I just love a being part of a celebration. One of the many reasons that I love my job. Other SJOTW? Cheering on my CFDC friends as they conquered Open Workout 13.3, teaching Teacher Training at TS and working with my TT Mentor Group (an amazing group of women who are going to be very talented teachers), walks outside with Ben, swimming laps at the local pool, and of course, painting. I am so thankful to be living this life. I hope your week has been full of simple, sensory pleasures, and that you're able to find the time to stop and appreciate them. Here's to a weekend full of joy and relaxation! Namaste, Mary Catherine
