Simple Joys of the Week, March 27th Edition

3/27/2015

What a week in Starr Struck land! I feel like a few thank yous/public follow-ups are necessary here:

1. We had a great response to our To-Do List Podcast and I've loved all of the to-do list snapshots and feedback that we've received--it's awesome! Also, it's great to know that my to-do list habits are *somewhat* normal and I'm not a total psycho. Thank you for that ;)

2. I said it on FB and Insta, but I'll say it again here: My heart is very full from all of your feedback re: yesterday's Yoga and Antidepressants post. I was so scared + nervous to put that post out there (Would people judge me? Would I get lots of negative feedback?), but instead, I was overwhelmed with love, encouragement, and similar stories + experiences from people I adore and admire. Thank you for reading and sharing. I love how the interwebs connect us in this way!

3. Totally different and unrelated topic, but I want to share: My little brother, Patrick, is in the PeaceCorps in Peru, acting as an Environmental Management Volunteer in a small village called Shirapucru. He has a crowdfunding project going on to raise funds to buy a solar panel to install on the youth center in his village, which, without solar power, may have to be closed because the families in the village can't afford to pay the electricity bill each month (the average monthly income for families in this region is $43/month). If you could donate--even $5 would be a great help--I would appreciate it! His campaign has only 9 days left and needs a gentle nudge! You can learn more and DONATE HERE.

That being said (thanks for indulging me), lets get on to my simple, sensory pleasures from the past week...

HEAR:  The River & The Thread by Rosanne Cash
I love me some Cash family music, and Rosanne is no exception. My dad sent me her new album a few weeks ago, and I've been really enjoying it ever since (it won 3 Grammys!). You can listen to one of my favorite songs from the album, "A Feather's Not a Bird" below:

SEE:
YogaGlo online yoga classes!
Um, how have I been functioning without YogaGlo for this long? I've known about it (and heard other yoga teachers rave about it) for years, but until late last week, I had never tried it. It's amazing! I've taken 4 online classes with incredible teachers in the past week, and I am so excited to amp up my home practice with this new-to-me source of inspiration and yoga goodness. The impetus for trying it out? Since our move, I've gotten out of my usual class (taking) schedule because I'm further away from the classes that I used to take on a regular basis, so I was looking for a new way to learn from other teachers. Et voila!

[PS. No sponsorship here--just a really happy yogi customer who is sore in all the right places from a bunch of Level 3 classes...yay!]

TASTE: Guacamole from The Beech Tree Cantina
Another "how have I been functioning without this?" SJOTW...For those who aren't local, this is a restaurant here on the Cape that I've been hearing about since moving here, but just never made the time to visit. Then, last weekend, Ben and I finally went, and it was sooooooo good. I consider myself a guacamole expert/connoisseur, and this, my friends, was the best I've had in years (ever?). It's one of those places where they make it at your table, which is my fave. Future CC guests and visitors--here's your guac place!

SMELL: Fresh bread + cookies from a kind new neighbor
We mentioned this on the podcast this week, but it was so sweet, I think it's worth mentioning again here--one of our new neighbors came over last weekend and brought us freshly-baked homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies! She was the first neighbor to come over and introduce herself, and she and her husband have lived on our street for 38 years (!). Also, she doesn't have a cell phone, which she told me right away and which made me smile ;) Anywho, the bread and cookies smelled (and tasted) delicious, but it was the friendly welcome that really made my day.

TOUCH: Actual grass [not snow] under my feet :)
This will sound ridiculous to those who don't live in a place that got pummeled with snow this winter, but as of this morning, we can see parts of our front yard! And our backyard! And we can feel grass--not snow, ice, or some harsh combo--under our feet when we walk around! I am not kidding when I tell you that I walked outside and sighed audibly with relief (and maybe said "yessssssssss"?) when I saw it. Yay for a day of warm rain! It really is the little things, ya know?

What brought you joy this week? I urge you to take some time to reflect today, if you can...

Oh, and you have just a few more days to enter Monday's TribeYoga handmade meditation cushion giveaway! Closes Sunday and you can enter here (And because it takes a bit more effort to enter this giveaway, not as many have entered, so you have a MUCH higher chance of winning!).

That's it, everyone! Have a fabulous weekend.

How long are the yoga classes on YogaGlo? Seems like something I'd love to check out!
