Yesterday it was almost 60 degrees here on the Cape, and as I write this, it's snowing (and we're supposed to get 4-8 inches today!). Yikes! But I guess that's March/Global Warming/the unpredictability of life for ya, isn't it?
How was your week? Mine was another roller coaster of ups-and-downs (which, I'm learning, is simply life with a baby + life during this political climate) but here we are: we made it to Friday and for that, I'm grateful ;) So lets take a moment to look back, shall we? Here are some of my favorite simple pleasures from the past 7 days... HEAR: Baa Baa Black Sheep This is hands-down Charlie Mae's favorite song. She loves others (5 Little Monkeys Jumping On the Bed, Mr. Golden Sun, etc.), but when this one comes on or someone (anyone) starts singing it, her face lights up and she starts smiling, dancing (which she's just started doing!), and/or squealing. So, as you can imagine, we sing this song A LOT around our house. I don't know if I'll ever get sick of it simply because of how happy it makes her :) SEE: Pedicure I got a pedicure last weekend! Miracle of miracles! Sure, I brought my laptop and worked during the entire thing, but it still counts. It felt SO good and every time that I've looked down at my feet this week, I've gotten a little moment of happiness at seeing my toes (pre-pedicure they were looking really bad). TASTE: Homemade Baklava One of my dear students/friends brought me some delicious homemade baklava last weekend (shout-out Geneva!). On Sunday night after we'd finally gotten Charlie Mae to sleep, Ben and I sat down at the table and enjoyed it together; after the bedtime battle that we had just fought, I really appreciated that little moment of sweetness. As if you didn't already know this, it really is the little things. And sugary treats really do make everything better, don't they? SMELL: Swinging in the hammock outside I know it's a stretch putting this experience in the "smell" category, but here's my rationale: our hammock has been in storage all winter and so it smells musty. BUT, that musty smell was extremely welcome this week because it means it was nice enough to get the hammock out. Yesterday I pulled it out, hung it up, and then Charlie Mae, Sayde, and I all sat it it and swung in the sunshine, musty smell and all. Ben made fun of me for using the hammock in March, but I didn't care--it was worth it for the 10 minutes we spent swinging and snuggling outside. The best. TOUCH: Facial In keeping with the self-care theme of the week, I got a facial this week, too. I know! WAAAAYYYY back when I was pregnant, one of my students (shout-out Deb of Deb Genoa Skincare!) gifted me with a facial and I *finally* got it this week. Ben was home with Charlie Mae and I snuck away on Tuesday evening for a TOTAL pampering session that was ah-mazing. I could have stayed on that heated bed with the low-lighting and calming music for days. I wanted to live there. Thank you, Deb! Other SJOTW? Watching Charlie Mae dance (as mentioned above), continuing to eat all of that Dark Chocolate that Ben bought last week (haha), working on some new yoga pose greeting cards (which I'll reveal soon), the longer naps that Charlie Mae has started taking (hallelujah!) and of course, the usual family walks in the sunshine. I hope you can find some time to reflect on your SJOTW today, and that you have a great weekend, snow or no snow!
