Hello from the Boston Airport! I woke up at 4am to make my way here (not tired at all....) and am en route to Chicago for my last pre-baby trip + second trip to The Windy City in a month. This time I'm headed to my BFF's Bachelorette weekend. And yes, you read that right--oddly enough, I've had two bachelorette parties in Chicago in the last month! Such fun :)
But anyways, since I have a flight to catch soon, this week's SJOTW will be fairly short + sweet. What brought you pleasure over the past 7 days? My simple, sensory joys of the week are below... HEAR: "What the World Needs Now is Love" by Broadway for Orlando If you haven't already heard this song and/or watched a video of the performers singing it, you need to. The message--in response to the Orlando Massacre--is incredibly moving, and it's beautiful to see so many talented people come together to put it out into the world (the song is also available on iTunes with all proceeds going to the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida). You can watch + listen below: SEE: Summer Blossoms Summer flowers on the Cape are finally blooming! It took a while for them to get going, but it was well worth the wait and my daily walks were that much more beautiful this week now that there are colorful blossoms popping up all over the neighborhood. So pretty! TASTE: Big green smoothies I go through phases with green smoothies, and this week I got back into them for a few days, loading them up with spinach and celery like it was my job. Smoothies are so delicious when it's hot outside! Yum yum. [And yes, they're way more fun to make now that we have our Vitamix]. SMELL: Mulch I know this is a kind of lame simple joy, but we *finally* laid mulch in our yard last weekend, and while I'm not necessarily in love with the smell of mulch, I enjoyed working outside, making our yard look prettier, taking care of our plants, and checking this big to-do off of the list. So yes, the smell of mulch ended up being a simple pleasure because of what it represents: home ownership, getting it done, and a well-cared for yard. TOUCH: Baby Quilts + Snuggly Blankets Starr Struck's very own Sara made me a handmade baby quilt that matches our nursery decor! It's gorgeous and so soft and snuggly! I can't believe it--it's *SO* special. Also, this week my mom sent me a big box of some of my old baby blankets, quilts, and even clothes (I know, so vintage!), which was another very special baby delivery to receive. Lastly, I received a super soft blanket from a kind student this week (which also happened to match our decor), so I'm feeling very fulfilled in the snuggly blanket department :) So there you go! I hope you can find some time to reflect on your favorite simple, sensory joys from the past week today... Have a great weekend! 6/27/2016 03:47:36 am
