FRI-to-the-DAY, ya'll. Hooray! Today is an especially exciting Friday for me, as my dad and brother are coming to visit this weekend and they're getting in tonight (!). My dad + bro are my first family members to visit us on the Cape (I told everyone to wait until summer...), and I couldn't be more excited to show them our life here and introduce them to our dog-child, Sayde (All week long I've been telling her, "You get to meet your grandfather and uncle on Friday!" Needless to say, she's excited). Not only does it look like we're going to have a gorgeous weekend here [*fingers crossed*], but we've also got a bunch of fun outdoor activities planned (tennis, bike ride, beach time, hike, etc.) and I can't wait for them to soak up the beauty of the Cape. But, as usual, I've jumped the gun by telling you about the weekend that lies ahead of us, so lets rewind and look at some sensory joys from the past week. My simple pleasures are below. What made you smile over the past 7 days? HEAR: "The New Classic" by Iggy Azalea Did you hear that there's a new female rapper in town? If not, you better check yo self before you wreck yo self because she is AMAZE. If you aren't clear on how I feel about talented female rappers, then let me set you straight: I LOVE them. I want to be one. In my next life I WILL be one. In college, on many an alcohol-fueled night, I thought I was one. So yeah, I'm a little obsessed with Iggy Azalea. I bought her new album this week and am in awe of her skillz. You probably know her current radio hit, "Fancy," which you can listen to below. She is good, peeps. SEE: The Mug Sayde got Ben for Father's Day (aka Doggy Dad's Day) Okay, so I don't know if I've told you guys or not, but although we were under the impression that Sayde was a Dashund/Chihuahua mix (aka Chiweenie) when we adopted her, we've since decided that she's a Daschund/Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin) mix. We've done a bunch of research and are 99% sure that she's mostly Min Pin. We've even bought a DNA test to be sure, but of course we haven't been able to swab her mouth yet to get her DNA because she's so crazy when we try to do things to her. ANYWAYS, because of this Min Pin discovery, Ben and I have become obsessed with Min Pins and stop everyone we see who has one to ask about them. Thus, Sayde got Ben a Daddy's Day bumper sticker and matching mug that says the following: "Your honor student is merely a pawn in my Min Pin's diabolical world domination plot." Amazing and so true. Min pins are cray-cray. TASTE: Sundae School Ice Cream + Waffle Cone We live 3 mins away from a famous Cape Cod ice cream place called Sundae School, and ever since we moved here (back in November) I've been wanting to get an ice cream cone there. In the spring I stalked their website to see when they would open, but it was never posted and I finally got sick of checking and forgot about it. But then this week I was driving by and guess what? They're open! So we FINALLY went there. I got my ushe, Choc Chip Cookie Dough (duh!) in a handmade waffle cone, and it was to die for. New weekend haunt? I think so ;) SMELL: Dinner on the beach with my hubby Ben and I did something totally spontaneous on Wednesday evening, and I'm proud to say that it was my idea (I know!). I called him up at work and said, "What do you think about picking up dinner tonight and taking it down to the beach to eat while the sun sets?" His response, "I love it." Yes!!!! So we did it, and it was wonderful. We just kept talking about how happy + grateful we are to live in such a beautiful place where we can go to the beach on a Wednesday night and all of the sudden feel like we're on vacation (in the middle of the work week!). So nice. TOUCH: My new-ish mint green TOMS Crochet Classics I bought these TOMS (my 4th pair!) over the winter during an online flash sale. Since then, I've been eyeing them and waiting for the day when it would be warm enough to slip them on (they have little crochet holes in them, so I couldn't wear them when it was cold out). Well, ladies and gents, it's definitely warm enough to wear them now, and every time I put them on I get happy. They're just so summery and light and airy! Love me some TOMS. And with that, I'm going to go get prepped for my visitors and sneak in a yummy yoga class to ease my achin' body! My brother is only here for the weekend, but my dad is here for 8 days and next week, my grandmother, great-aunt, aunt, and cousin are all joining us, so I've got lots to do before they descend. It's a little impromptu/partial family reunion on the Cape, I guess! ;) Have a magical Friday, everyone. I hope you find some time to reflect on your simple joys today... PS. Yes, I am fully aware that I've become a crazy dog lady. Sorry I'm not sorry.
