Today is a somber day for many of us, so I'm going to try my best to keep things positive by just focusing on my simple joys of the week.
Even if the past couple of days have been hard for you (or heck, the past couple of months since the election!), I urge you to try and find some time to reflect on everything for which you are grateful--it always makes me feel much better when I'm feeling disillusioned with the world or with our country. Thus, here are my favorite {VERY} simple pleasures from the past week... HEAR: "Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd I don't know what it is about this song (and I don't even know what the song is about), but I love it. Have you heard it? It's so catchy and weird and amazing and when it comes on the radio when I'm driving around, it makes me feel like I'm back in college or high school and just straight chillinnnnnn' (Ha! As opposed to a frazzled new mom with throw-up on my shirt). You can listen here. SEE: Momma Strong Moms out there in internet-land who can't find ANY time to workout anymore--here's your fix! Before I had a baby I had a really hard time understanding why moms said they couldn't find time to workout, but now I TOTALLY get it, which is why I'm super thankful for this program. It's just $2 per month and there are tons of programs to follow; all you need is 15 minutes, a yoga mat, a rolled up towel, and some soup cans ;) Each day there's a new high intensity workout video to do and the trainer + mom who runs it is pretty great. I'm loving it, even though it's insane how hard it is to find even 15 minutes to myself during the day... {Also, I realize that this sounds like a paid advertisement but it's not! I'm just really excited about this and want to share the love because I think every mom could use it. We need all the help we can get!} TASTE: Roasted Brussel Sprouts I had a really long, crazy day yesterday, so when I got home at 8:10 to start the bedtime process for Charlie Mae--aware of the fact that I wouldn't be eating dinner for another 30 minutes or so--I loved knowing that I had some freshly-roasted brussel sprouts waiting for me downstairs. Shout-out to Ben for being the family chef night after night! He's *such* a good cook and I'm forever grateful that I married someone who could just handle this part of our lives. SMELL: Babyganics Baby Shampoo and Body Wash I know that this wash says that it's "fragrance free," but I find that it has this lovely, subtle little smell of pure cleanliness that I adore. Whenever we get Charlie Mae out of the bath after she's been bathed in this stuff, I can't help but just want to sniff her all night. Is there anything better than snuggling your baby and sticking your nose in her scrumptious fat rolls? I'll answer that question for you: no, no there's not. TOUCH: Allbirds Sneakers After reading about these shoes in multiple places on the internet, I decided to give them a try, as I was desperate for some new sneakers and was sick of my old minimalist brand. I was quite impressed when they arrived last week and after wearing them for about 10 days I can confidently say that everyone was right: they may be the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Plus, I think they're really cute ;) So there you go! Simple pleasures up the wazoo. I hope you can find some time to reflect on yours today, too. For those who are marching tomorrow: I'll be thinking of you and feeling super grateful for you and your time, effort, + strength. For those who are on Cape Cod and can't make it to a bigger march in a city (like yours truly), here's a great "in solidarity" event in Falmouth that you might want to check out (I'll be there!). Lots of love to all of you today! |
