A few of my simple, sensory pleasures from the past week or so... HEAR: "Kothbiro" by Ayub Ogada This month's savasana song, which I am IN LOVE with. So wonderful. You can listen below (Yes, it's more "World Music." So I like songs in other languages! So sue me!): SEE: Valentine's Day card from Ben Ben, who has never cared about Valentine's Day before, actually cared about it this year (!). He bought me the above card on Etsy (his first Etsy purchase ever?) and when I opened it, I died laughing for about 5 mins. It was so unexpected and ridiculous, and we were delirious from working on the house all day, so it was just the best. Oh, but actually, even better? All he wrote was "Happy Valentines Day! --Hubby" inside. I asked, "Why didn't you write more?" And he said, "I thought when you got a nice card like this from Etsy, you weren't supposed to write in it." Oh, Ben. TASTE: Valentine's Day cupcakes from Ben See above--Ben got me that card AND cupcakes. He really stepped it up this year. The cupcakes were amazing and ended a completely unnecessary and unplanned cupcake drought in my diet. Can we please bring back cupcakes on the regs? SMELL: Homemade French Toast [I made it! Hooray! I'm a chef!] This is embarrassing, but until last weekend, I had never made french toast before. I know, it's the easiest thing EVER (now I know!), but it had honestly never crossed my mind. Then, last weekend, when my morning class was canceled due to snow, I wanted to do something special, so I looked up how to make french toast and voila! A few minutes later I was enjoying it--both the scent and the taste. DELISH. And yeah, since you asked, I'd say I'm pretty skilled with a spatula. TOUCH: Putting painted cabinet doors back up (slowly) We removed all of the doors to our our kitchen cabinets in order to paint them. We've completely painted the actual cabinets, and are now working our way through the doors. We figured we should try and get at least the bottom doors on before we moved in this weekend--just so Sayde doesn't start nosing around in them once we fill them with things [food]--so we started putting them back on this week and they look GREAT! Here's a little before + after sneak peek: As you can see, we also spray painted the hardware, which I think makes a huge difference. I can't wait to share the official kitchen before + afters with you! Ahhh! I'm dying! It's so fun.
So there you have it! Another week, another set of lovely simple pleasures. What brought you happiness over the past 7 days? I hope you can take some time to reflect today... We move [on the ice + snow] this weekend, so I'm assuming it will be a pretty crazy one, but I'm excited that the next time you hear from me (here), I'll be writing from our new house! Eeeeekkkkk! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone :)

This is Caitlin's dad. I just listened to your finance blog. It was very good. As you know I am old fart and know the importance of saving and investing. Young people make it much harder than it needs to be. Frankly boring is better if what you want in the end is results. If you want adrenalin rush go ahead and do a lot of trading, believe you can beat wall street and then see how much better you would have done if you had done boring. I have a book that I asked my kids to read that I frankly think is one of the best. It was recommended to me long ago and is very simple. I have other ideas for your blog if interested although they may not fit your theme. I really did enjoy.
