Woah! We had a blizzard yesterday! It came seemingly out of nowhere, blew in, dropped tons of snow, knocked out a lot of people's power, and left, just like that! Luckily we still have power, but it flickered enough times throughout the day yesterday to totally freak us out and send us whirling into hypotheticals about surviving a night without power with a baby...
How was your week? I hope it was a good one *full* of simple pleasures [despite what has become the usual insane political stuff...will I have to caveat SJOTW every week from now on under our new administration!?!]. Oh, and I have to share my BIGGEST simple joy of the week right here at the top because it was huge: Charlie Mae slept 10 hours straight on Tuesday night and then 8 hours straight on Wednesday night! It was a miracle! Last night wasn't quite as wonderful, but getting two nights worth of full, uninterrupted sleep made me feel like a new person. So thankful. Here are a few more simple things that brought me happiness over the past week: HEAR: "Wednesday Morning" by Macklemore I don't know how I missed this song until now, but my finger-on-the-pulse-of-all-good-music friend Olivia (shout-out!) recommended that I listen to it this week and I was totally moved. Macklemore put this song out shortly after Trump was elected and it's about the state of our country and his post-election emotions. You can listen here. SEE: My mom + Charlie Mae Now that we have a baby, it's been really sad for me that we don't live closer to my family. But then when a family member comes to visit, I watch Charlie Mae smile at them and interact with them and it all feels okay again, which is what happened when my mom got in town on Wednesday. It's been really sweet watching her and Charlie Mae spend time together and great to have the extra help. Also, it's so crazy to think that my mom was taking care of me when I was Charlie Mae's age! Insane. TASTE: Warm Smoothie from The Local Juice Have you ever had a warm smoothie? OMG, neither had I until last Friday. Charlie Mae and I took a quick trip to our favorite local Juice Bar + Pantry and I enjoyed a banana, apple, date, coconut, almond butter, ginger, cinnamon, + nutmeg smoothie. It was to die for and warmed me from the inside out ;) SMELL: Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Honeysuckle Hand Soap We ran out of hand soap this week so I bought this kind thinking that it sounded good but never having smelled it before. When Ben got home from work on Monday and washed his hands with it he said [not joking], "Buying this hand soap was one of the best things you've ever done for our family." Enough said? It smells *that* good. Haha! TOUCH: Dinner out with the babe in a restaurant high chair Last weekend we went out to dinner and ate with Charlie Mae sitting at the table with us for the very first time! We've been to restaurants with her before, but she was always in someone's lap or in my carrier. Having her sit in a high chair at the table with us while we ate felt huge...I could eat my meal so much more easily! So there you go--another week full of simple pleasures + gratitude has come and gone and we're well into February. Wowee life goes fast! I hope that you can find some time to reflect on your favorite simple pleasures today and that you have a lovely weekend! 2/10/2017 04:56:41 pm
Hurray for a full nights sleep! Leave this picture of you both smiling!

Wow! I am so glad to read that you didn't lose power and survived Mother Nature's surprise snowstorm. We only had about 3/4 inch here in VA but the snow came fast and furious (and during my commute home!). Also, the picture of you with Charlie Mae is so adorable. It makes me happy to see you both happy :o) Comments are closed.
