Okay, so I know it's not summer yet, but recently, things have changed here on the Cape and it feels like it is. Or at least, it feels like summer is on it's way. And since we have a glorious back deck at our new house (which I've already mentioned in a recent post), Ben and I have been trying to have dinner outside every night possible.
This past Sunday night was gorgeous, so we decided to throw an impromptu soiree for ourselves; We broke out the charcoal + vino, grabbed Sayde, lit some candles, and set out to celebrate the fact that it's almost summer... I have to admit, I've always liked myself a glass of wine, but ever since we moved into our new house, my taste for wine has grown. Maybe I feel like more of an adult now that I'm a homeowner, and thus, feel better about indulging in a glass of wine on a Sunday night? Either way, I'm enjoying my newfound passion and this past weekend was no different. As many of you have probably heard (on the podcast), Ben rarely joins me for a glass of wine, which makes me sad [It's SO much more fun to drink with someone else, ya know?]. This past weekend, however, he did! I was thrilled, and could tell this meant he was ready to let his hair down in his sweet Ben way ;)
Although I'm no sommelier/wino, I've been enjoying trying different types of wine lately. On Sunday, we pulled out two new bottles by Ribera y Rueda, a wine that hails from the Ribera del Duero and Rueda regions of Spain, and since it was a summery-feeling night, we went for the white.
New to wines from these regions? So were we! But, for 2,000+ years, winemakers from Ribera and Rueda--located in northwest Spain, only about an hour away from Madrid--have cultivated what’s new + what’s next in every vineyard and vintage they produce. The bottles we had included the Rueda Verdejos (white grape varietal), which are bright, crisp and creative, and the Ribera del Duero Tempranillos (red grape varietal), which are bold, rugged and ripe. And let me tell you, the Verdeo was delicious. Sound like a type of wine you'd like to try or learn more about? Visit Ribera y Rueda's site here.
As we sipped our wine, Ben grilled (I made salads, set the table, and watched while corralling Sayde), and we soaked up the sights + sounds of the springy/summery night.
On the menu? Burgers (Beef for Ben, turkey for me), potatoes, ketchup (obvs) and salad. Super easy, but delicious, fun, and special. We're thinking that we might make Sunday Soirees/BBQs a new weekly tradition in our household...
For the next one, I hope to have some globe lights hung, more people, and a fenced-in backyard, so that Sayde can run wild + free ;)
