As I was preparing for our Costa Rica retreat this year, I got so lost in the details (the packing list, the class plans, the art supplies), that I forgot about one of the most important aspects of the trip--how incredibly healing it is to get away from your everyday life. Don't get me wrong, I adore my everyday life, but when I get away, I am always reminded of what really matters, and how ridiculous it is that I get so wrapped up in + stressed out by my daily to-do list. I mean, really, Mary Catherine? Maybe this is the Costa Rican version of me talking, but does it really matter if I get to everything on that list every single day? Ugh. Perspective, it's an amazing thing. Yesterday, before getting an incredible massage, I told my massage therapist that I'm an anxious person, and I hold a lot of my stress in my neck, shoulders, and jaw. After the massage, when he told me that my body was much less tense than it was at this time last year (Does he really remember how my muscles felt an entire year ago???). He said, "Don't label yourself. People can change. You don't need to call yourself an anxious person. Maybe you are not." Although there was a slight language barrier, I don't think this was a misunderstanding. I think that what Rodrigo was saying is true--I should be more mindful about how I label myself, and about how that label may influence my behaviors. What about you? What labels do you put on yourself without even thinking about it? And how might those labels influence your actions? Something worth thinking about, I think. Anyways, you can view a few of the scenes that have caused my body + muscles to be "less tense than this time last year" below: Although this is technically a work trip, it has been incredibly rejuvenating, refreshing, and relaxing. It's exactly what I needed but didn't know I needed. Ya know? Lastly, before I go indulge in my daily dose of fresh pineapple + watermelon, I wanted to share my new summer teaching schedule with you, for those of who live on Cape Cod or might be planning a trip to to New England this summer. There are a few changes, so be sure to note the classes marked {NEW!}: {CAPE COD} SUMMER TEACHING SCHEDULE
