Okay, so I think I need to introduce this "Quick & Easy Recipe" post with a brief moment of honesty:
When we first adopted Sayde--back in December--a fellow Cape Cod yoga teacher brought me a little bag of homemade dog treats (along with a "Welcome to the Cape" card from her dog!). Of course, Sayde loved these treats, and I loved the idea of making homemade treats for her--how special, how healthy, how DIY, how loving! Immediately, I asked for the recipe. I imagined myself baking a batch of these treats every few weeks--with perfectly coifed hair, while wearing my decorative apron, humming a jolly tune, and sipping tea--and assumed that I would start gifting them to anyone and everyone who owns a dog. Because that's the kind of person that I want to be, goshdarnit! Fast forward to 1.5 months later, and I still haven't made the dog treats. Not even once. I've been given another bag from the original giftee (so sweet!), and I've had "make dog biscuits" on my weekend to-do list *ALMOST* every weekend in 2014, but alas, it hasn't happened yet. [Welcome to my life when it comes to good intentions in the kitchen.] However, I didn't want to let the fact that I couldn't get my act together enough to make them, stop me from sharing this fabulous recipe with YOU any longer. Your dog shouldn't be punished simply because I'm an everything-kitchen-related-dropout!!! So, here goes--a FABULOUS homemade dog biscuit recipe. You don't have to wear a cute apron and hum while you make them, but I have a feeling that might make it a bit more fun ;) Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits Ingredients: 2 cups flour (recommended: White Wheat Flour) 1 cup quick cooking oats 1/2 cup natural peanut butter 1 1/4 cup hot water Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together (hot water helps to make peanut butter mixable). Roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness, using more flour or a floured surface, as needed. Use cookie cutters to cut dough and transfer shapes to cookie sheets (this should fill up about 2 sheets). Bake for 35-40 minutes. Cookies should be lightly browned & crisp. Easy, peasy, right? I mean, it seems that way...I wouldn't know yet, but I think that even I could pull this off... You're welcome, dogs of the blogosphere! And a big thanks to CC yoga teacher and doggie mother, Dawn Spunzo, for the recipe and treats.
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!
