Painting Poses: Update #3

3/31/2011

I just got in from a day chock full o' painting, and my, what an enjoyable day it was (besides the RIDICULOUSLY cold weather--what is going on!?!?)! Continuing with my Thursday afternoon painting updates theme, I wanted to share what I've been working on since last Thursday's update.

I decided to give the Dove, Wide-Legged Forward Fold, & Extended Side Angle paintings a rest for a week (need to let them percolate), so I began working further on two smaller paintings that I started earlier in the week, and revisited a painting that I started about 2 months ago, but put down once I started painting yoga poses. It's a still-life "portrait" of my lovely BF, Ben :)

Happy perusing!

Painting #4: Extended Side Angle

After the first day of painting--completed underpainting & then began adding shadows, sketchy colors.

Second day of painting--began adding more detail, added 'light.' Still need to do another 1-2 days on it, working more with hands/feet (still very rough right now) and adding a bit more detail.
Painting #5: Warrior 2

After first day of painting. Again, same stage as Half-Moon above.

After second day of painting! Much more developed, but still needs another day or two worth of painting.
Portrait of Ben made of inanimate objects (all things that he wears to the love of his life, Crossfit DC):

After second day or painting. Sadly, I don't have any pics after the very first day, as that we before I was sharing my painting drafts with the world :)

Third day of painting. Didn't work much with this painting today, but as you can tell, I've brightened it up a lot, adding more white (went a bit bright on the right side of the painting, will correct the next time I work on it) and working a bit on the Chucks. Again, TONS more work to do on this one!

And that's that! I know that last week I said that I would finish some of my "in-progress" paintings this week, but sadly, I didn't feel ready to be "done" with any of them quite yet. Maybe next week will hold a finished product or two...

Artfully yours & namaste,
Mary Catherine
