Throughout my life, I've had a great appreciation for creative greeting cards. I love when people make their own, or when artists create cards out of their work, and I think there's nothing more fun than perusing the gift card collection at a unique, local gift shop. Over the years, I've saved my favorite cards, carrying them around from apartment to apartment, framing the ones I love best and hanging the others on the fridge or in my bedroom. Similarly, making handmade cards can be a GREAT way to add a bit of creativity to your life, and there's nothing better than receiving a handmade card :) So, to inspire and share a bit of the joy that creative cards bring to me, I've included some of my favorites below (click on a photo to enlarge, view my comments, and browse through gallery): For a while when I was living in NYC and was constantly inspired by all the amazing cards in the gift shops around my apt. in the East Village, I even started designing my own, simple line drawing gift cards. I've included a few below for fun (can you tell I got stuck on a cupcake theme? Again, click on a photo to enlarge): See how easy it is? Think of a tagline that inspires you, and start drawing, or collaging, or taking pictures of things you love (or quotes), printing them out, and mounting them on cardstock. It's that simple and SO much fun. I'm going to start watercoloring my own cards soon, and will post once I've created a few.
For another AMAZING handmade cards idea, check out this post on my friend Laura's blog, Lulabee Bliss. Love this idea!! She is also the person who made the "OM WOW" card above :) Share: Do you have a similar love for gift cards? Where do you find the best cards, or do you make your own? Do you have a favorite gift card artist? Happy creating! Namaste, Mary Catherine 3/28/2011 09:35:38 pm
Love this!! I especially love that so many of those cards adorned our many dorm rooms! And thank you for posting my blog! I'm going to try to get some cards together for Etsy and/or a website soon. I've been having lots of fun decoupaging with pages from Pride & Prejudice recently! :) Comments are closed.
