Welcome to the very first installment of our new house Before + After/During tour! Finally, right? I'm super excited to share these pics with you, but want to make sure you know that none of our rooms are finished and we still have a wayssss to go. Also, I'm sharing just 2 rooms today--the kitchen and the and living/dining room. The only other rooms we've really worked on are the bathrooms, which I'll share next week. I know you just want to see the pics, so I won't spend much more time blabbering here at the top...tutorials used, in-progress pics, + more below! ROOM #1: KITCHEN As soon as we closed on the house, we tackled this room. Here's the list of things we did to it, and what we still have to do:
Kitchen BEFORE: Kitchen IN-PROGRESS: Kitchen AFTER/DURING: As you can see, we've still got quite a bit of work to do in here, but we're getting there! We've started painting the rest of the cabinet doors (we had to get the bottom ones put on before we moved in because of Sayde!) and hope to have them done in the next month or so...that will be a BIG step. Hooray! ROOM #2: LIVING/DINING ROOM This room is by far our favorite room in the house thus far. Although (once again), we've still got quite a bit to do in here, we're happy with how it's looking at this point. Here are the lists:
Living/Dining Room BEFORE: Living/Dining Room IN-PROGRESS: Living/Dining Room AFTER/DURING: What do you think? We've come pretty far, right? And if you can't tell, we're kind of in love with how the chandelier turned out ;) Want to do some similar projects to your place? Here are some of the tutorials we found helpful for all of these changes:
Oh, and just to inject a bit of reality into this post--and so that you can see where my priorities lie--here's our mantle vs. our "office:" Ha! [And yes, those are some of Ben's high school trophies on the floor in the office...don't ask].
Hope you enjoyed the tour and thanks for being a part of this fun new journey!

Such an exciting process! Where did you find the kitchen rug? I've been looking for one like that for my dining room forever.

Thanks and glad you like it, Lindsay! The rug is from Overstock--here's the link (sorry so long...): https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Safavieh-Dark-Grey-Beige-Indoor-Outdoor-Rug-53-x-77/6511733/product.html?fp=f&cid=239337&token=239337-2393372015030214253536779503733985562980403261-1-ef7ea1&utm_source=strongview&utm_medium=email&utm_content=e&utm_campaign=t_20150115_shipconf&fp=f&TRACK=emailcusts We are still decorating our house after 4 years but I've learned that each room doesn't have to be finished right away. You will travel and go through life and find amazing things or ideas to add to your home and you'll be glad that you didn't get it all done. Great job, MC & Ben!

Absolutely gorgeous...hard work but beautifully done! Enjoy your new home! 3/16/2015 10:33:37 pm
Hi Mary Catherine, well done to both of you - you're new home is looking beautiful. I too am in love with your chandelier and will be looking at the links you've included for tips for our home. I'm wanting to paint our cupboards and tiles in our kitchen, so this will be just what I need to get me started. Also, I adore the pink/green combo you've got going on - I'm doing a similar thing actually because we're changing things around and my curtains are pink/green. Take care, Jane x

Hi Mary Catherine! Looks beautiful so far! And I can SO appreciate your attention to the mantle (in lieu of the office lol)! Have you and Ben considered whitewashing the brick to lighten it up a bit? Just a thought! Keep the updates coming - so inspiring to watch a house turn into a home!!

Kira: I actually like the original brick. It reminds me of a traditional fireplace, which I like. Mary Catherine has been wanting to paint it, but I used one of my vetoes.

Haha I love that you guys use a veto system - my husband and I do that too! It looks great this way too - a nice contrast to the white mantle and light walls ;)

This conversation made me laugh...I TOTALLY agree, Kira! Really want to do something to the bricks, but as you read, we're compromising (for now ;) ... Comments are closed.
