You know when people who know nothing about yoga think it's just a bunch of flexies coming into pretzel shapes? The two poses that I break down in this week's Mat Matters video totally support that stereotype--both are variations of compass pose, and both are very pretzel-y. The first pose that I teach is seated compass, or parivrtta surya yantrasana, and the second is flying compass, or visvamitrasana. Hellooooo hips and hammies! And shoulders! Phew. I love both of these poses, but I must reiterate that they are NOT poses to come into cold. Not even close. Get that body really warmed up before you even think about attempting one (or both) of them! Srrrrrsly, you guys. So that's it! I hope you enjoy...and don't be afraid to embrace the strap for these poses ;) You can watch here or on my YouTube channel (where you can subscribe to be sure you never miss an episode...).
