After teaching a workshop breaking down and discussing jumping [in yoga] last weekend, I realized that I had never made a video about jumping forward from downward facing dog, which is just silly. So, I made one! My jumps are very basic (as in, I don't look like this), but they're controlled and I land softly, which is what I recommend my students focus on as they learn how to slow down + engage the core when jumping. I hope that this video is helpful and inspires you to work on jumping in your own practice; Jumping is a lot of a fun and it's a great way to create more heat as you warm-up with your sun salutations. You can watch here or subscribe to my YouTube channel to ensure you never miss an episode. Enjoy!

Love this! I remember after clunking through jumping forward many times and then the first time it felt light and easy was magical! It was obvious that my core had strengthened and was helping me control the jump more. It was great! I need to practice it more. I tend to do one big step forward. This just inspired me to bring it back into my own practice. Thank you! And just out of curiosity, are you planning a Tuscany retreat for 2016? I really want to go this year but just can't do it. I would love to try and make it happen next year if you go again. Namaste! Elizabeth

Thank you for this tutorial! For some reason, I have always thought I needed to exhale on the jump; inhaling instead made a huge difference--my jumps feel lighter and land more softly.
