Oof, this pose is challenging for me. I remember the first time that I did it in a class--I felt exhilarated, but I was also unsure of what I had just done. I came out of the pose thinking, 'How did I get my body wound up in that pretzel-like position, again?' And looking back on it, I now think that's one of the signs of a good teacher--I got there by following her instructions, but I wasn't sure how and couldn't retrace my steps... ;) Anyways, when I teach this pose, I find that it's often a new pose for many students, and I think that's because it isn't taught much, simply because it is SO challenging for so many people. It involves an intense bind (shoulders), an intense twist (spine), very steady balance, lots of core engagement, and a straightening of both legs (hamstrings) that can be hard to connect with all at once. That being said, I love this pose! And if you're ready for it (aka super warmed up and focused/in the zone), I think you will, too! So give it a try and let me know what you think...
