I'm kind of obsessed with the intercostal muscles these days [nerd alert!]. What are the intercostal muscles? They're the muscles in between the ribs that help to form the chest wall and play a big part in our breathing. Yes, we have muscles in between each of our ribs and yes, they're very important. When your intercostal muscles are tight, you cannot breathe as deeply and you can easily pull a muscle just by coughing or sneezing. Ever had that happen? It's the worst. Not only does stretching the intercostal muscles feel amazing, but it also allows you to move more easily (especially when it comes to side bending), breathe more deeply, and stand up a little taller. So what's not to love, right? Thus, although I know it's not a very sexy topic--like an arm balance or a fun transition--today's video shows a few simple ways to get into the side body, and particularly, into the intercostal muscles. I've been doing a lot of side bending in my own practice lately, and let me tell you, it feels GdoubleOD good. Give it a try! I think you'll like it ;) Comments are closed.
