Today's Mat Matters is quite different from other episodes. Yes, the lighting is bad (taped it at night!), it's up-close-and-personal (hello, crazy hair!), and I make some awkward faces that are kind of embarrassing, but it's also different because it's simply a discussion, not a yoga sequence or pose. I'm not sure how I feel about this video, and don't know if putting it out there is the best idea I've ever had (I kind of ramble), but I think that what I'm discussing is important enough to post it anyways, despite the unprofessional-ness of the presentation. Forgive me. I think I'll keep this short and sweet, and let the video (er, myself?) do the talking, but I wanted to share the quote that I mention in the video. I know I've shared this quote on the blog before (and in many of my yoga classes), but I think it's worth reiterating: “I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.” ―Goethe Thanks for watching my babbling and for being a part of my journey... Thanks for putting yourself out there with this mat matters; although I didn't have the unpleasant experience you did (sorry about that!), I did let a few things get to me that I usually let go and obsessed over it myself, too. I like your quote that you control your weather...good analogy! :)

I am so sorry you had this experience. I, too, had an unpleasant doctor experience that seemed to consume my thoughts for days. Even getting out of bed was hard. All I can say is that I have been there, and it does get better. Thank you for sharing.
