You asked, here's an answer :) As discussed in Tuesday's post, I recently learned that when moving from chaturanga to upward facing dog, you should flip the feet at the same time to avoid creating instability the sacral plane (read Tuesday's post for all of the info or watch the video, in which I explain it again!). So, I wanted to show you the correct way to flip your feet at the same time. My demonstration isn't perfect, as I just learned/taught my body how to do it over the weekend, but I hope that this video sets you on the right path towards making the change, if you're a fellow one-foot-at-a-time-flipper. The most important part of flipping them together? The scooting back of the feet before you turn over the toes. You'll see it in the video. Also, I want to take this time to say that I hear you guys loud and clear on the Mat Matters feedback (in your heart-warming comments on yesterday's post)!! It sounds like you want more short (and also slightly longer) sequences that you can do on your own, so I'm on it! Making different length yoga videos has been on my list for a long time, but it sounds like it's time to make it happen. Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts! Now watch the video and go practice flipping your feet at the same time ;)

Great information on how to exactly flip so as to not come so far forward and crunch the lumbar in updog. And love sadie's appearance! Keep these coming such great info.

Awesome! Are there particular types, brand, or thickness of mat that you would recommend? I worry thicker mats would affect my balance, for example. I also wonder what "features" are available in yoga mats, if thats a thing. Thanks for the informative post!

This is so helpful. Another teacher told me to flip both feet at the same time, but she never told me how and I just kept the old way. I tried this out and it works! :) oh, and I have the manduka pro (lite version) for reference. Comments are closed.
