This week, we're breaking down Eka Pada Galavasana, aka Flying Crow, Flying Pigeon, or One-Legged Balance (lots of translations). As you may remember from my February Newsletter, this is my "personal pose of the month," and it's one I've been coming into a lot in my own practice lately. Yowzers, it's exhausting. I used to think this was an "easier" arm balance, but something has shifted in my body or my practice lately, and I no longer find it that "easy." In fact, I find it extremely challenging, and unless I'm very focused and feeling strong and in-tune with my body (often after an intense hip-opening practice), I can usually only hold it for a couple of breaths--as you'll see in the video ;) That being said, I must emphasize that I LOVE this arm balance. It's incredible! If you, too, enjoy arm balancing, I encourage you to try it. Who knows, you might surprise yourself and just pop right up into it!? Just be sure that you're pretty warmed-up before attempting this one... ;) Oh, and I've moved out of my living room! Hooray! I taped this video in the LOVELY Orleans Yoga + Pilates, one of my fave studios here on the Cape ;) Enjoy!
