You asked, so here it is! Today's episode of Mat Matters focuses on bound headstand (sirsasana) and how to come into this pose slowly, with control, using the core, without a wall (I know!). I am a huge fan of headstand, but I also think that it can become a fixation pose for a lot of Type-A yogis (myself included, when I was learning). Often, when we can't do it yet, it becomes an obsession, and we try to force the body into headstand, time and time again, even when we're super tired at the end of a long practice. So today, I encourage you to practice patience with this pose. It will come. [And even if it doesn't, which is highly unlikely, a life without headstand is still one worth living, I promise.] Thanks for all of the fabulous feedback, emails, and requests that you sent along after my first episode last week. I'm already having a blast doing these videos and am so happy to be able to answer your questions :) Keep the requests coming! I love receiving them. I hope you enjoy today's video and happy headstand-ing! Remember, slow and steady wins the race, er, enjoys the yoga journey... Great video! Watching you do this really helps understand this pose versus how rushed it can be in class sometimes. You are totally right that this is an obsessive pose. I am taking Jennifer's workshop this weekend so hopefully that will also help me finally get into it on my own! If not, I think I will (likely) still survive. :)
