If woven mugshots aren't unique, fascinating, and amazingly original, I don't know what is. Today's artist, Joanne Arnett, does just this--she weaves mugshots and then names them after the sentence that the subject recieved. For instance, the image above is entitled "Two Years and a Fine of $2000," and some of the images below are entitled "30 Hours Community Service" and "18 Months with Time Off for Good Behavior." Clever, right? What I can't believe is that these images are actually woven, and aren't really aren't prints of some sort--they're so well done! I love looking at the details of the weave/thread up close, so that I can understand [or try to understand] how they were made. WOW. I've included some of the details below, so that you, too, can be astounded by the intricacy of this work... Pretty fabulous, don't you think? I love when artists successfully mix high-brow and low-brow subject matter and processes, and I believe that these woven mugshots are a perfect example of a job well done.
