So far, experiencing winter here on Cape Cod feels a bit like a fairy tale. It's freezing outside, the wind is howling, the house is warm, the fire is always burning, the skies are grey, and the dense forests surrounding our home, the roads, and the bike trails are full of barren trees and unknown critters. If this sounds very different than winter in a city, that's because it is. Thus, something about Juliana Swaney's whimsical, folk tale-inspired, critter-filled watercolors really spoke to me when I came across them recently. Somehow, I felt like I could kind of identify with her quiet, thoughtful, solitary figures, and her simple-yet-detailed settings. They feel sort of familiar and also unfamiliar at the same time... Similarly, as usual, I'm very inspired by Swaney. She makes her living painting and drawing, showing in galleries, doing illustration work and lettering, and designing custom logos and wedding invitations--and she is one talented lady! {If you're in the market for a whimsical invitation or logo design--check out her fabulous work!} With that, lets take a look at some of my favorite pieces by Swaney: I am just SO impressed by Swaney's masterful use of watercolors! Makes me want to rush upstairs and work on the watercolor paintings that I'm in the middle of right now...
If you, too, are drawn to Swaney's work, you can see more on her website, her blog, or in her shop :) I hope your day feels like a fairy tale! The day before Thanksgiving is always a special, excitement + anticipation-filled one... Comments are closed.
