Often, we yogis have to laugh at ourselves. In my opinion, yoga (and life) is not to be taken *too* seriously, or you miss out on a lot of the fun and magic of it. Yes, yoga can be crazy! The poses can look insane, be uncomfortable, and seem impossible! People often fall over, fall asleep, feel stupid, feel exhausted, feel emotional, feel silly, and feel powerful all at the same time--and then, if we're lucky, we can laugh at ourselves--or at least smile in a difficult pose, as we struggle to do what others may find to be easy. So, in celebration of the lighter side of yoga, I wanted to share a few yogic witticisms & funny images that have been making their rounds on the blogosphere/twitterverse/facebook feeds as of late. You may have already seen some of them, but just hang in there with me... (Now these, I LOVE, because all of the t-rex stuff cracks me up!) And you've probably already seen at least one of these, but I find them to be fairly true, in a way (more so the first one than the second)... The following "Drunk Yoga Poses" are kind of ridiculous and sad, but also slightly humorous. It's actually really funny that someone spent so much time and energy putting these together! There are ten of them, so if you like them, you can view a bunch more here. And of course, there are hundreds of images online of animals doing yoga. However, two of my favorites are below :) You can view more like this here. And the next one, this actually isn't very funny. It's kind of sad and twisted, but also, humorous that someone could get things SO wrong. This is the newest Barbie in a Barbie line called "I can be..." and you can read more about her here. See, young girls, you too can be a yoga teacher when you grow up, and Barbie will teach you how! Barbie + yoga = epic fail. To me, she epitomizes the exact opposite of yoga. So yes, somewhat funny... Yep, yoga is funny. And so is t-rex trying to do chaturanga ;) So here's to finding the humor and joy in all that you do today! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
