This year, I plan to do most of my holiday shopping on Etsy. I also plan to do a lot of my wedding "shopping" on Etsy as well, as I love the idea of supporting individual artists as opposed to large corporations or factories (and also, I absolutely adore almost everything on the site!). These people have talent. So, as I was perusing the site yesterday, getting ideas for anything and everything, I came across the following two artists. Both use words, quotes, and letters to create extremely simplistic but striking pieces of art. I think that words can be so powerful, and there's no better way to unleash their power than to present them in a unique way in a piece of art. Take a look below and I think you'll see what I mean (and if you're looking for a birthday or Christmas gift for me, you know where to start, hehe ;)! Artist/Shop #1: Mary Burrows, mb art studios Burrows has an eye for moderation. So knows just where the line is in order to create the perfect balance between "decoration" or flourish, and letters, in order to let the words really shine. I ADORE her work and am definitely thinking about ordering one of the wedding date plaques for our wedding...I can just imagine it hanging at the entrance to the garden--so cute! Artist/Shop #2: Louise Verity, Wall Envy Art This artist takes a famous quote from a book, and then prints it on a page from a vintage copy of the book. So simple, yet genius! And my friend and I were just recently talking about how much we love it when artists do drawings or paintings on top of book pages...I'll have to play with this on my own sometime soon! Anyways, some of my favorites by Verity are below: Pretty fun, no? And I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to art made of words + Etsy. Can't wait to find more time to delve deeper into this world and discover some fab ideas, inspiration, and gifts! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
