Although some say it's ugly no matter what, I've always been a fan of creative, artistic graffiti--not taglines or bad words written on buildings, but beautiful images or creative statements meant to wake people up and make them stop and think. So, it makes sense that I'm also a big fan of the street art and guerrilla art movements. Since not everyone has my appreciation for street art, I wanted to share a few of my favorites (also rather famous, well-known street artists) so that maybe, just maybe, I can win over a few converts... I think that street art can turn a city into a more creative, interesting place. Take a look at these images and let me know if you agree! Street Artist: Julian Beever (or the Sidewalk Chalk Guy) Beever, an English, Belgium-based chalk artist, is known for his UNBELIEVABLE 3-D sidewalk chalk drawings. He's now pretty well-known (featured on the Today Show and a number of other programs) and is even commissioned by companies to do 3-D advertisements, or to include their products in his street art. He is extremely talented! See more of his work on his website, here. All photos via julianbeever.net. Street Artist: Banksy Banksy is an anonymous English graffiti artist, political activist, film director and painter. His satirical street art typically consists of political and social commentary and his work is found all over the world--he too, is pretty well-known at this point in his career. Again, he has great talent but he ALSO has something to say, which I love. See more of his work on his website, here. All photos via www.banksy.co.uk. Street Art: Guerrilla Knitting I used to see Guerrilla Knitting projects all over the East Village when I lived in NYC, and I always thought that these works of art were beautiful and sweet. When I went to LunaFest recently, there was a short film on knitting that reminded me how much I love it. So, now what do you think of Street Art? Pretty cool, huh? Have a creative day! Love these! Weird, but I have a memory of looking at the chalk artist in the Yerkes computer lab with you freshman year. I think maybe your mom or dad had emailed it to you?! Anyway, love all the guerilla art! PS - I haven't blogged in SO very long. Glad you're keeping it up for the both of us :) xoxoxo Comments are closed.
