I've always loved the ocean, but since moving to the Cape, it's become my place in the world. When we first moved, if I was feeling a little sad mourning my old life, I would drive to the beach, walk out to the water, and spend 5-10 minutes taking it all in, breathing in the air, looking out at the horizon--and just like that, I would be fine. For some reason, everything feels like it's going to be okay when you're at the beach. These days I no longer need the beach for therapeutic reasons, but instead, use it as my meditation space, my happy place, my getaway in the middle of a busy day. As the weather gets warmer and the wind gets less intense, I feel like I should see the beach at least once per day, simply because I live here now and I can (and because sweet Sayde loves it, too!). So, it's no surprise that when I came across Carlos Garcia Roman's work, I was immediately drawn in and infatuated. Not only does he paint the ocean, but he paints the ocean more masterfully than anyone else I've ever come across. His waves are powerful, his water glistens and moves, his sunlight is so warm that you can feel it on your skin...Oh my, I want to go see the ocean right now! Take a look at some of Carlos Garcia Roman's work below, and enjoy the little mid-week beach trip a la oil paint + canvas... Good art can really transport you, huh? You can view many more amazing ocean + river-inspired paintings by Carlos Garcia Roman on his website and/or his blog. He is one. talented. guy.
I'll leave you with this final sea-inspired thought, courtesy of Yoko Ono: "Every drop in the ocean counts." Amen, sister!
