Here we go, everyone. Get ready for some glistening, seasonally-appropriate, mind-boggling photorealism paintings. I mean, can you believe that the images above and below are paintings? They're paintings! Acrylic on canvas! I'm speechless. The artist who created this work, Jason de Graaf, is a painter who has seriously honed in on his area of expertise--he knows what's he's doing and he does it really well--and I'm going to guess that he's a very patient guy. He says that "[His] paintings are about staging an alternate reality, an illusion of verisimilitude on the painted surface," and I totally know what he means by this. He creates these little worlds in his reflections and compositions, and I think that they have a slightly dreamy quality to them. I'm also extremely drawn to the way that de Graaf captures light and reflection in his paintings, as this is always something that is a painstaking process for me in my own work. {Sigh.} Take a look below for some of my favorite paintings by Jason de Graaf: So incredible. I know that photorealism is not for everyone, but how can you not be blown away by these paintings??
If you want to see more work by Mr. de Graaf, check out his website. Woweeee. Makes you want to take second look at the world around you, doesn't it? Hope you have a wonderfully-mindful, sparkly, reflective Wednesday :)
