This week's featured artist, Ellen Cornett, doesn't seem to take herself (or her work) too seriously. Her pastels are playful, often funny, and very interesting--yet they are always done masterfully, with the skill of a very knowledgeable, very detail-oriented creator, who somehow captures every necessary detail without making anything look overworked. That's quite a feat! Most of Cornett's recent work depicts a re-interpretation of fables, fairytales, short stories, and poems, which obviously inspires the playfulness her subject matter. I've included a few of my favorite pieces by Cornett below, but you can see a lot more of her work on her website, here. Enjoy! Don't they just make you smile? And don't you want to know more about what inspired each image? I know I do. I'd love to hear Cornett talk about each piece, and how she came to rest on the composition that she did...
I think these works are a GREAT reminder that life, and art, doesn't always need to be so serious. Have a little fun every once in a while, ya know!? I hope your day is a colorful and playful one. Namaste! Mary Catherine
