Over the past few days at home, we've all been been somewhat nostalgic. Looking back at vintage family photos, going through pictures of Anita to be used for the Memorial Service (which was yesterday), spending time reminiscing with family and thinking back on Anita's life (with so much love and gratitude), and reflecting on all that we've been through together. I think it can be very comforting to reflect on the past, and that often, we find so much unrealized beauty in what has been--beauty that we never knew was right in front of us the entire time, until the time has passed. So, today's artist, Jessica Brilli, connects with this feeling of nostalgia, or of the beauty found in the past. She's depicted this beauty by painting vintage objects, not people or moments, but I think that the way in which she has captured these objects signifies something much bigger than just the object itself. Often, vintage items can take us back to an entire year, or decade, or time period of our lives, and I think that these paintings capture the power that objects can hold. To understand what I mean by this, take a look at some of her work below... Oh, the colors! The sketchy-yet-realistic rendering! The nod to times gone by! I adore it.
Brilli's work takes me back to a simpler time and also makes me very thankful for my new MacBook Pro (bought it last week and am totally in love!). You can view more of Brilli's work on her website, here. I hope you're all enjoying your pre-Thanksgiving festivities, travel, last days of work, etc. Soak it all up, because very soon, it will all be in the past...
