I am simply blown away by the work of Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes--as in love with her as one can be with an artist that they've never met and/or whose work they've never seen in person. But I swear, she is just that amazing. As you can see from the image above, she is a master at painting the human figure into a background, mimicking the wallpaper or patterns behind them, until they become camouflaged enough that their form becomes difficult to detect. Despite the colorful, cheery, often busy wallpaper, I find these images to hold a heaviness, a sadness in some cases, that make them very complex and much more interesting to look at. This is the kind of work that you just have to see to understand. Some of my favorites are below... Incredible, right? I'm smitten, fascinated, and intrigued.
