As you must know by now, whenever I come across artwork depicting clothing (especially clothing hanging on hangers), I just have to share it. Thus, today's featured artist, Allison Watkins, who "paints" with thread by embroidering life-sized works of art that depict images of clothing hanging on hangers in closets. Based in San Francisco, Watkins seems to be making quite a splash in the "Fiber Arts Scene" these days--something that I know nothing about, but think is very interesting--and after taking a look at her work, I can see why she's so highly praised. So lets take a look, shall we? As you can see, the work is stitched onto a light-weight sheet, and then displayed hanging, just as the clothes would hang in a closet. I think her work is brilliant, and love the way in which she leaves a lot of the "page" blank, especially as the eye moves further away from the hangers. Sadly, there's not a lot of work by Watkins on her website, but I'm going to keep an eye out for her because I think she's doing something very unique...
You can learn more about Watkins on her website, here. I hope your day is full of interest, color, and beauty! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
