As you can probably tell, I'm big into hand-painted everything. But I've always had a special place in my heart for lettering--and over the years have done more than my fair share of hand-painted signs (ESPECIALLY when I was in a sorority in college). I think there is nothing more beautiful than a hand-painted sign, and in my mind, no matter what the business, you can't go wrong with hand-done lettering, whether on the main sign, windows, chalkboards, menus, etc. I believe that nothing says "we pay attention to detail" the way a hand-painted sign does. Not sure what I mean? Read on for some examples... While in the Berkshires last week, we went to dinner in the small town of Lenox (adorable town!) and a number of the shop signs in town were hand-painted. These signs made the town look cared for, loved, and very classy. When I saw the signs below, I had to to snap a pic because they were just so simple and beautiful: The full sign that the details above are from is below...look how wonderful! And the distressed wood/paint job doesn't hurt, either ;) Down the street, we came across this sign at the Laundromat...have you ever seen a more beautiful Laundry sign? Another one of my favorites? Chalkboard signs. I posted some work by the most AMAZING chalkboard artist/hand-letterer that I've ever seen back in May (see here), but just because I love her so much, I'm sharing one of my favorite signs by Dana Tanamachi again: And of course, Anthropologie (the Queen of all things design/presentation) also uses simple chalkboard lettering in some of their promo/catalogs: I know, it's all so gorgeous, no? Don't you want your own hand-painted sign after seeing all of these works of art? I know I do. I love these from the etsy shop Word Whipped, a shop that offers homemade typography and art signs. She'll also do custom signs, so you can be creative or get your favorite quote painted for you! I might have to pick up one of the signs below for our new apartment :) Handwritten signs of the world, here I come! When I open my own yoga and art studio (my dream!), I can guarantee that everything will be hand-written...
Nothing like fun with words on a Tuesday :) Now back to unpacking the new apartment... Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
