I've always loved Halloween, although for me, it's because of the dressing up, the parties, and the candy, not the fright factor, the haunted houses, or the fake blood. I'm a big fan of almost all of the costumes that I've worn over the years, and am sad to report that this year is the second (second!) year in a row that I'm not dressing up. Sigh. Next year will have to be a big one (although I think I also said this last year...). Despite my disinterest in the scary side of Halloween and my lack of a costume this year, I do love myself a good, weird-to-the-point-of-being-almost-frightening artist, and believe that today's featured work was created by someone who fits this bill ;) So, this is my little Halloween celebration, brought to you by Mari Lowery, a Brooklyn-based photographer and mixed media artist who creates altered antique photographs with an often spooky twist. She has a great love of both animals and the somewhat creepy, and I think you'll see that these two loves definitely come across in her work... Somewhat disconcerting but also very clever, right? You can view tons more of Lowery's work in her Etsy shop, here. She also has a photography shop with some even creepier prints (which I did not include today because I find them too disturbing!), here.
And I'll close with my favorite southern Halloween expression...Boo Y'all!!! I hope you have a fabulous Halloween, full of whatever it is that YOU love about this holiday :) Namaste (y'all), Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
