There's just something about black & white photography that gets me every time. Add a unique twist--an interesting composition or unexpected subject matter--and I'm hooked. Therefore, when I came across Tomas Januska's photography series entitled "Gravity," I was sold right away. His work captures that moment of weightlessness at the top of a jump--you know, that moment where you feel entirely free and childlike and joyful--before being pulled back by gravity and dropping back down to earth. But, what blows me away about this series is that Januska took these pictures without the aid of a trampoline or any jumping apparatus or surface (I know!!?). Each of his subjects did anywhere from 150 to 600 jumps for him in order to capture these final images. Crazy, amirite? I love the clean, crisp backgrounds, the various clothing patterns and body shapes, the way that emotion is conveyed in each image without our even seeing the faces, in some cases. This series is so much fun! Oh, and this project was Januska's final project at University in Lithuania. Pretty fab for a Uni project, wouldn't you agree? [I'm acting like I'm a cool European who says "Uni" for the sake of this post. Just bear with me.] You can take a look at a few of the images from this series, below... I want a jumping pic, don't you!? I can't ever get them right and always end up with just a bunch of pics of people either about to jump or landing. Sigh.
You can view more of Januska's work on his website or on his Facebook page. Have a playful day!
