Painting hair can be tough. Those who have never painted it before often make the mistake of trying to paint each individual hair separately--to show the separate strands--when really, using large brushstrokes and instead, focusing on the areas of dark and light can convey hair better than any thin line can. Case in point? Jaclyn Conley's recent work. I'm not sure what she's calling it, but I'm gonna go with "Hair Series." Each of the paintings in this collection show the back of heads with a special focus on the hair, which is conveyed in strong, fluid brushstrokes of varying colors and widths. The hair in her paintings isn't static or held in place--it's alive and wild, it's got a mind of it's own, it's rockin' some major body, and it has something to say. Oh, I just love it! It makes me want to get out my paint and get all heavy-handed and messy with it ;) Lets take a look at some of Conley's paintings, so that you can understand why I'm so enamored... I wish my own hair was as fabulously full and textured as the hair in these paintings! It's messy and unruly and totally gorgeous.
Love Conley's work as much as I do? You can see a lot more on her website. Want to check out some more amazing hair-inspired art?Check out this past post. And this one. Notice a pattern...? Here's to a good hair day for all!
