Time and time again, I find myself being drawn to art that has some sort of gravity-defying element. I think I have a thing for flying, or floating, or becoming weightless and experiencing the world in a different way or something, but whatever the case may be, I really love the feeling that these kinds of works convey. When I came across Bairon Rivera's photography a few weeks ago, I was immediately drawn in by this very element in his work. Looking at his images made me yearn to hear him tell the story behind each photograph, to learn about his process, and to float through the air in one of his works. Rivera's subjects levitate in a number of ways--some are attached to balloons, some float, many seem to be falling (or mid-fall), and others hover above the surface of the earth, seemingly playing with gravity--but no matter what the method of levitation, all are depicted during a moment of weightlessness, movement, and emotion. They're pretty wonderful. You can view some of my favorite photographs by Bairon Rivera [aka Barnel Photography] below... Beautiful, kind of sad, fun, slightly tragic, and playful all at the same time...such a creative feat! If you, too, enjoy Rivera's work you can view more on his Facebook page and/or Flickr portfolio.
