Oh my, I am in love with and slightly haunted by Meghan Howland's incredible oil paintings. They're beautiful and expertly painted, and yet they're also somewhat sad, mysterious, and dream-like. When I look at the yellow birds in the painting above, I want to feel a sense of joy (yellow = happy, right?), yet when my eyes come to rest on the woman's face, I become a bit forlorn. This is the magic of Howland's work--she draws you in with the color and movement, and then leaves you wondering about the scene, worrying about the figure, and unsure of the event that is taking place. Oh, and then there's the fact that she's crazy talented (obvs). Her work is so fresh, so untouched, so tactile! And she's a young New England artist, which I love (born in MA in 1985, grew up in NH, and now living in ME). You can view some of my favorite paintings by Meghan Howland below... What do you think? Slightly mysterious yet very beautiful, right? You can view more of Howland's paintings on her website.
Have a dreamy day! I'm off to yoga and am then going to spend the day painting...I'm feeling very inspired ;) Comments are closed.
