I've been having crazy dreams lately. I don't know what is causing them (Pumpkin pie before bed? Deeper sleep than usual? Change in the weather? Holidays quickly approaching?), but whatever it is, it's totally weird. For example, Steve Buscemi made an appearance in my dream last night. I know, totally weird, right!? So, maybe that's why I was drawn to the paintings of Henrik Aarrested Uldalen, whose subject matter focuses almost solely on people in a dream-like or limbo state. I find his work to be haunting, yet peaceful at the same time, intimate, and relatable, in a way, as we all know what it feels like to be far away from our bodies while sleeping or dosing off. The other amazing thing about Uldalen? He's self-taught and only 25 years old, yet paints like an old master. It's incredible. You can take a look at some of his striking works below... It just takes you somewhere else, doesn't it? What a gift this painter has! I am super jealous--in a totally positive and supportive way ;)
