"Inspiration often comes from the most unlikely places. It might be found in the brightly colored hues of a coffee cup or a jumble of marbles in a mason jar. Celebrating ordinary objects in our everyday lives, Daryl Gortner brings out the extraordinary in what we might otherwise neglect to see or feel." -Daryl Gortner's Website The above quote about the paintings of today's featured artist, Daryl Gortner, perfectly captures something that I talk about a lot here on the blog--finding inspiration, celebrating the extraordinary in our everyday lives, and stopping to pay attention to the moment and take in the beauty that surrounds us. Gortner's work does just this, in a very interesting, unique way, and I believe that's why I was drawn to her paintings in the first place. Today, I've chosen to share a selection of Gortner's work inspired by diners because I'm drawn to the simplicity and boldness of this subject matter. I love that these items--salt & pepper shakers, napkin dispensers, ketchup bottles, and checkered tables--usually go unnoticed, but in Gortner's work, they are elevated and given some serious status. You can see what I mean by taking a look at some of my favorite pieces, below... If these photorealistic paintings don't inspire you to look for the beauty and interest in your everyday life, I don't know what will ;)
You can view more or Gortner's amazing paintings on her website here, and can connect with her on Facebook here. Thanks for sharing your talent and inspiration with us, Daryl! |
