This past weekend, a crazy storm hit the Cape. It rained most of the day on Saturday and then on Sunday, while Ben and I were out looking at houses, it really hit. The wind was whipping, power was flickering (not ours, luckily!), branches were falling, and although I didn't see them in person (I was looking at living room after living room, instead), I hear that the ocean waves were out of control and powerful and totally beautiful. The next time that it storms like that, I've decided that I'm packing it up and taking it to the beach, because I want to see those waves. There's something about huge waves crashing down during a storm that reminds you about how little you are; How mother nature could take you down in a second and none of the little things that you stress about would matter. It's really quite moving. ...Which brings me to today's featured artist! Lia Melia's work captures what I'm talking about here--the power, the strength, the overwhelming beauty of ocean waves. She creates these pieces using powdered pigments and solvents on aluminum, and I have to say, I've never seen anything quite like her work. It's really intense in the best kind of way. Here are some of my favorites that evoke the strength of Sunday's storm: What do you think? Can you feel the wind and hear the crash and taste the salt? I can and it's pretty great.
You can view more of Lia Melia's work on her website and/or on Saatchi Art Online. Hope your day is a bit more serene than these works of art...!
