It's hard to believe, but the purse in the photograph above is a cake. The ingredients were mixed together, it was baked and then painstakingly iced--and it is totally edible. In fact, all of the creations pictured below, by Shelley Miller, a Montreal-based artist, are edible. She uses icing to make social commentary, to bring beauty to otherwise ugly cityscapes, and to add a little whimsy to the world. Most of her work is situated in public spaces and is meant to be interacted with in some way; in many cases, it is meant to be eaten (!). Since it's hard to put Miller's process and work into words, let just take a look at some more of her art so that you can understand how interesting and amazing it is... Pretty sweet, isn't it? I love it that she's okay with having all of her hard work eaten...talk about non-attachment! ;)
You can read more about each of these series, what Miller was trying to say with them, and why she works in the manner that she does on her website, here. Hope your day is full of the unexpectedly beautiful + delicious! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
